Helping Hands

Helping Hands is our name for the fantastic group of adults who help at Cub meetings and activities.  They assist with games and craft activities and support the young people to participate in activities.  Guided and supported by the Cub leaders, they are a valuable part of the team.

Background

Our Scout Group is growing which means we are able to offer the friendship and adventure of Scouting to more local young people, which is fantastic! This does mean that we need more people to volunteer their time to make a difference in their community.

We as  many adults as possible to experience the fun and adventure that Scouting provides, as well as offering the opportunity to make a difference by helping our Scout Group thrive. We fully understand that not everyone is able to help on a regular basis which is why we have the "Helping Hands" rota.

A rota means that adults who want to be involved, often parents of the Cubs, can make a difference and help without having to do so every week, if lots of people are on the rota then each person's commitment may only be once or twice a term. The more people we can get involved the more exciting our activities and events can be. We have called the rota “Helping Hands” rather than a parent’s rota, as it is open to anyone who would be willing to lend a hand, not just parents.

The rota is organised by Sean Naylor (sean.naylor@billingescouts.org.uk), who is a parent of one of the Scouts, as well as being one of the Cub leaders. Sean keeps in touch with everyone who is part of the rota to ensure we have two helpers per session.

To take part you need to undertake a CRB check using the form that is available here. This can be returned to any Beaver, Cub or Scout meeting. Remember to bring your ID with you – visit www.direct.gov.uk/crb, or ask one of the leaders if you’re not sure what you will need.
